Someone worth having dinner with is in your city this week.
RAVL is not a directory of people in a city. It is the small number of members who are also away from home, in the same place, at the same time as you — and three steps to get from one of them to dinner.

Meet
One message, one evening.
Two people who had never met were going to be in the same city on the same night, and both of them were going to eat alone. That is the whole product. The rest is three screens and a message.
Say where you are going. That is the whole of it.
Dates and a city. There is no bio to write and no profile to polish before you can be useful to anyone. Declaring a forward trip is the one thing RAVL asks of you, and everything else on this page follows from it.
It is also the best signal there is that a member actually travels — which is a good part of why the network holds together.
Not everyone in the city. The few who are also away.
A member who lives in London gets very little from other Londoners. They are at home, with their evenings already spoken for. What is useful is the handful of people whose trips overlap yours — that week, in that city.
It is a much shorter list than “everyone in Frankfurt”. It is also a far better one, because everyone on it is in the same position you are.
One message. One evening that was not room service.
You send one message. You agree a place. Nobody is scoring anybody, and there is nothing to swipe through — the list was short to begin with, which is the point of it.
If a message crosses a line, the warning happens on the sender’s phone before it sends. It happens on the device, not on our servers, and nobody at RAVL reads the conversation.
The next time you are both in the same city, you already know someone.
Events are the way in. They are not the thing.
There are two good reasons events exist. Some people would rather meet a group in a public place before they will meet one person. And some people do not see the point of a one-to-one until they have sat in a room with a few.
Both are fair. Both end in the same place: you meet someone, and after that you do not need the event. RAVL is what happens between two people afterwards.
Three steps, and the first one takes ten seconds.
Join, tell us where you are going, and see who else will be there.
